In his early years, he graduated from the Department of Chinese language and literature of the National SouthWest Associated University and began literary creation. He served successively as a middle school teacher, a cadre of Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles, an editor of Talk and Sing, and Beijing Literature and Art, and a playwright of Jingju Theatre Company of Beijing. In 1958, he was wrongly classified as a rightist and had his comeback in 1980. His short story creation achievements were particularly outstanding. Masterpieces such as Special Gift, Ordained, A Tale of Big Nur and Migration have revived the freshness and aura of modern Chinese. He also contributed to prose and modern Peking opera. His works included Encounter Collection, Night in Sheep House, Dinner Flower Collection, Wang Zengqi Self-selected Collection, Puqiao Collection, Essays on the Tower, Thought on Dark Green Night and so on.
