Ye Jiaying

Ye Jiaying, with another name as Jialing, was born in a literary family in 1924 in Beijing. She studied with famous poet Gu Sui at the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Furen University and graduated in 1945. In 1966, she was invited to work as a visiting professor at Harvard University and Michigan State University, then she moved to Canada in 1969 and was elected as an academician of the Royal Society of Canada in 1989. In 1979, she began to give lectures in the Chinese Mainland. Over the past 30 years, she has taught in dozens of universities, including Peking University, Nankai University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, and Sichuan University. In 1996, she founded the Institute of Chinese Classical Culture (School of Literature) at Nankai University. In 1999, she donated her pension to establish the Tuo’an Scholarship under another name of her respected professor Gu Sui. On February 17, 2021, Ye Jiaying was selected as one of the persons who moved China in 2020.
