One of the most eminent writers in China, the chaiman of the Sichuan Writers Association. Alai started to write peoms in 1982, and then he focused on fictions in the late 1980s. In 2000, Alai's first novel, Red Poppies: A Novel of Tibet won the 5th Mao Dun Literary Award. His works includes poem collection Suomo River; novel collection Bloodstrains of the Past, Silversmith in the Moonlight, Utopia of plants: Chengdu Phenology; novel Empty Mountain, Three Cordyceps sinensis, Mushroom Circle etc. Alai's new Novel Rest in Cloud was published in April, 2019.
