On July 17, the 34th Hong Kong Book Fair grandly kicked off at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, with the participation of Beijing as a thematic city for the first time. A total of 12 publishers and cultural institutions from Beijing collectively showed up at the Mainland China Publishers Zone. They planned and held dialogues and interaction activities with books as the medium, fully displaying the cultural achievements and urban charm of Beijing as the national cultural center and an international communication center, and further promoting the cultural communication between Beijing and Hong Kong.
On the morning of July 17, the launching ceremony for promoting Beijing as a thematic city was held at the thematic activity area in Beijing thematic hall.
Nearly 3,000 copies of more than 650 book titles launched by Beijing Publishing Group and other 10 publishers under Beijing Municipality on literature, humanities and social sciences, science and technology, children and arts were displayed at the exhibition and sales area. They demonstrated in an all-round way the important achievements of Beijing in publishing industry since the 20th National Congress of the CPC in the new era. Selected works such as Book Series on Beijing Culture, Chic Beijing (multilingual versions) and Baoshui Village portray the historical and cultural traditions as well as contemporary charm of Beijing from various perspectives, presenting the rich connotations of Beijing culture and even fine traditional Chinese culture, and providing a window for Hong Kong readers to fully enjoy the urban charm of Beijing.
At the exhibition and sales area, Beijing Arts and Crafts Publishing House and other specialized publishers promoted more than 100 creative cultural products derived from intangible cultural heritages and filled with the local flavor of Beijing and the traditional Chinese cultural characteristics, such as Tu’er Ye, also known as the Rabbit God.
In the afternoon of July 17, members from the Beijing publishing delegation met their counterparts in Sino United Publishing (Holdings) Limited, discussing the opportunities of cultural communication and cooperation between Beijing and Hong Kong.
During the meeting, Beijing Publishing Group and Sino United Publishing (Holdings) Limited signed an agreement on strategic cooperation.
