During the opening ceremony of the Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF) held in June 2023, the contract-signing ceremony for exporting the copyrights of Chic Beijing was held, which was an effort to promote such an excellent work to go global, tell engaging stories about Beijing, and spread the new image of Beijing overseas. Chic Beijing was jointly compiled by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and Beijing Radio & Television Station and published by Beijing Publishing Group.
Beijing Radio & Television Station granted the rights to translate and publish Chic Beijing to Foreign Languages Press and Beijing Publishing Group. The multilingual versions of Chic Beijing, which are to be released soon, collect in one book the articles about 30 famous clock-in sites that best reflect the features of Beijing in the new era from the first two volumes of Chic Beijing. Composed of five chapters — “Ancient Charm”, “Arts”, “Vitality”, “Cuisines” and “Nature”, the new books draw traditional Chinese elements in their color design system, and record the spectacular views of Beijing, which is the ancient capital of China, with common art languages— texts, pictures, video images and colors. The book fully displays the beauty of the heritages and trends of Beijing in the new era.
Wang Yi, deputy director of the News Channel Center of Beijing Radio & Television Station, said that “It is our sincere hope that we can introduce Beijing to still more people in the world through the book, our camera lens and pictures, and make Beijing the ‘chic Beijing’ in real sense.”
The first and second volumes of the book series Chic Beijing were published in the past two years. As a program and product using different forms of media to help building Beijing into an international consumption center city, Chic Beijing invites well-known writers to describe the famous clock-in spots in Beijing with their literary creations. Chic Beijing sets a trend in new Beijing, exerts widespread influences, and wins acclaims in the publishing industry.
The multilingual versions of Chic Beijing, which were signed for during the BIBF 2023, represent the Version 3.0 of Chic Beijing based on the essentials of its previous two versions. Chic Beijing will be published in five official languages of the United Nations — English, French, Spanish, Russia and Arabian, in addition to the Chinese version. The six books, each in one of these six languages, will form a whole set of the book series to be formally published at the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair.
