On the morning of June 21, Beijing Publishing Group Co., Ltd. (BPG) and Han Culture Centre (M) Sdn. Bhd. Malaysia (HCCM) held a ceremony for signing the agreement on enhancing strategic cooperation.
In his speech, Zhang Aijun, secretary of the Party Committee and chairperson of the Board of Directors of BPG, said that BPG and HCCM had implemented many cooperative projects in the spirit of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation since they established a strategic cooperation relationship. He hoped that both parties would, by seizing the opportunity of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Malaysia diplomatic relations, continue to promote cooperation in areas including, among others, education, publishing and juvenile reading, so as to contribute to writing a new chapter in boosting humanistic communication between China and Malaysia and mutual learning among civilizations.
Dato' Goh Hin San, HCCM President, said the ceremony was yet another important move to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Malaysia diplomatic relations, and it also represented another important contribution to humanistic exchange between both countries. Both BPG and HCCM would carry out projects in culture, education and other areas through further strategic cooperation to further diversify the forms of mutual learning, enrich achievements and deepen their strategic partnership of cooperation.
Both parties released the Malay version of A Pictorial Biography of Wu Lien-Teh, which was the latest achievement in their cooperation in terms of copyright. Huang Jiankun, a descendant of Dr. Wu Lien-Teh and one of the writers of the book, also attended the book launch ceremony.
Both parties signed a cooperation agreement on developing a training textbook for teaching Malaysian civil servants to learn Chinese.
BPG authorized HCCM to solicit contributions under the title of “I Love Beijing” in Malaysia. By encouraging contributors to “express their personal feelings with their hands and pens”, the activity aims to increase the love of young Malaysians for Chinese culture and the mutual understanding between young people in China and Malaysia.
Qiao Ye, author of the novel Baoshui Village and winner of Maodun Literature Prize, and BPG and HCCM signed a cooperation agreement on “October Writer’s Residence Project· Kuala Lumpur”. The signing of the agreement marked the beginning of a literary journey of deeper communication and interaction between Chinese and Malaysian writers with the place of residence in Kuala Lumpur as a platform.
Qiao Ye expected that by participating in the “October Writer’s Residence Project· Kuala Lumpur”, she would gain firsthand experience of the traditional Malaysian culture and understand the Malaysians’ view on life, and from which she would draw new inspirations in creating new works for readers in both China and Malaysia.
Zhang Qian said that as representatives of excellent publishing organizations in China and Malaysia, both BPG and HCCM always stay in the frontier of serving the overall diplomatic needs of their respective countries and promoting friendly exchanges between China and Malaysia. She hoped that BPG and HCCM could continue to build a bridge of connectivity with all their enthusiasm and wisdom.
The signing ceremony was of special important significance as it was held during the Beijing International Book Fair and when both countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Malaysia diplomatic relations and the Year of China-Malaysia Friendship. With books as its medium, BPG further strengthens the communication and cooperation with publishers in Malaysia through various activities, thus making its share of contribution to promoting cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and Malaysia.
