On October 27, “The First October Copyright Exchange Program: Discovering Contemporaries of World Literature — Opening the Contemporary Literary Translation and Publishing Through Cultural Dialogue” thematic seminar, jointly organized by Beijing October Literature and Art Publishing House, the October Literature Institute and Paper Republic, was held in the October Literature Institute (Yousheng Temple). Ning Ken, famous writer and deputy editor of October magazine, Xu Xiaobin, famous writer and national first-level screenwriter, Fu Xiuying, famous writer and executive editor of Selected Novels, Xu Zechen, famous writer and deputy editor of People's Literature, Eleanor Goodman, American writer, poet and translator, Eric Abrahamsen, literary translator and publisher, Jeremy Tiang, executive editor-in-chief of Pathlight magazine, and Dave Haysom, literary translator and editor, attended the event and gave speeches. The seminar was hosted by Han Jingqun, editor-in-chief of Beijing October Literature and Art Publishing House.

The guests conducted detailed and in-depth discussions on specific issues in contemporary literary translation and publishing. "Which contemporary foreign authors are the focus of the Chinese literary circles?" "Which contemporary foreign authors are the focus of the English literature circles?" "Can book reviews or other forms of interpretation overcome cultural barriers?" "What are the important channels in English-speaking countries that can increase the domestic literary circle's attention to foreign literary works, so as to promote translation and publishing of such works and increase their influence?"

Experts at the conference believed that publications in magazines or interviews on radio, book reviews and recommendations, participation in literary festivals, residency projects and other cultural exchange activities can promote exchanges between contemporaries of world literature, enhance understanding, and enable literary works in different languages to stride over the borders and go globally.
