"Chic Beijing 2021" Beijing-London cultural exchange activities held simultaneously in China and Britain
At 19:00, July 24, 2021, Beijing time, and at 12:00, July 24, 2021, London, Britain, "Chic Beijing 2021" Beijing-London cultural exchange activities were held both offline and online in Beijing, China (Dongcheng District "Four Seasons behind Art Gallery") and London, UK (Westminster core area "China Station") simultaneously by Beijing Publishing Group, Beijing Media Network, Beijing Federation of Britain and Beijing Returned Overseas Chinese Federation.
Invited by the British side, this event showcased Beijing’s historical heritage and brand-new features to readers at home and abroad around the book Chic Beijing: A Guide to Famous Clock-in Sites in Beijing, unlocking the latest landmarks of the city. Among the British attendees were Tong Xuejun, Minister Counsellor and Consul General of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, Jonathan Glanz, Mayor of Westminster, Deng Zhuting, Chairman of the London Chinatown Chinese Association, and leaders of 15 important overseas Chinese groups in the UK. Among the Chinese attendees were Zhao Haiyun, Deputy Director of the Import and Export Administration of the Publicity Department of CPC Central Committee，Xu Hejian, Director of the Information Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, Xie Yu, Deputy Director of the External Promotion Office of the Publicity Department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, and Zhou Ling, Director of the Arrival and Departure Centre of the Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, Zhang Xiangdong, Second-class Inspector of State-owned Cultural Assets Administration Centre of Beijing Municipality, Zhao Haiying, Director of Publicity Department of the CPC Beijing Dongcheng District Committee. Guests from the organizers include: Kang Wei, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Beijing Publishing Group, Ai Dongyun, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Beijing Media Network, Li Hai, President of Beijing Federation of Britain, and Li Dengxin, Vice President and Secretary-General of Beijing Returned Overseas Chinese Federation.

At the site of the Chinese event, the creators of the series Chic Beijing: A Guide to Famous Clock-in Sites in Beijing introduced and shared the original intention of creation and interesting anecdotes about themselves and the clock-in place to both online and offline readers. They also gave an introduction to October Literature Academy, which is Beijing's literary highland. Through real-time connection, they showed to the British guests, overseas Chinese and readers the intangible cultural heritage hand-made process at the “Chic Life in Siheyuan Fair” held at Four Seasons behind Art Gallery in Dongcheng District, Beijing.
Wang Yi and Sheng Lei, the authors of Chic Beijing, talked about their creation experience and endorsed new clock-in places in Beijing.
At the site of the British event, Beijing Art Troupe of the UK performed the original song Beijing 2022—The Song of the Winter Olympics and the piano piece Beijing Thoughts, specially created for the event, and held a Beijing Opera show and a folk-art show. Patrick Shumacher, one of the chief designers of Beijing Daxing International Airport, also came to the scene. He became the most sought-after internet celebrity, as people queued up and asked him to sign the book Chic Beijing.
The guests from both sides jointly launched the opening of the English version of Chic Beijing: A Guide to Famous Clock-in Sites in Beijing in the form of online video.
