By Fan Wen
My Country, My Blood is a heroic epic created by the famous writer Fan Wen four years after his “Tibetan Trilogy”. It tells about intellectuals during the era of Southwest Associated University, who gave up the pen for the sword and fought the enemy to save the nation. The book depicts their ups and downs in different historical periods. The protagonists, Zhao Guangling, Liu Cangbi and Liao Zhihong were known as “the Three Musketeers” among the students of Southwest Associated University. Zhao Guangling survived on the battlefield, but his hometown was no longer the familiar one, which is the greatest pain of the soldier. After the reform and opening up in the 1970s, Japanese veteran Akiyoshi and others came to Zhao Guangling asking for the remains of the Japanese soldiers who died in the war. The confrontations between Zhao Guangling and Akiyoshi were undoubtedly another “battle” 40 years after the Battle of Songshan, and it is a battle with no gunpowder but matters to a nation’s dignity.
